PAINTING ADVICE
1 - DETERMINE YOUR PAINTING SURFACE
The first question you should ask yourself is "What base paint am I painting over? OIL or ACRYLIC? "
The Simple Test
To ascertain what the base paint is before you start that big job, vigorously rub a rag soaked in methylated spirits on the surface to be tested.
If the surface softens the surface it is Acrylic Paint and proceed with the Acrylic System. If it does not soften but rather stays the same then you should proceed with an Oil Base System.
To change Oil System to Acrylic System
Sand off existing gloss as much as possible.
Apply one coat of Acrylic sealer undercoat and be allowed to dry for at least 24 hours and then proceed with your Acrylic System.
Ensure that you read the instructions on the paint can. Often you will find that you'll learn something new and useful and avoid making a costly mistake.
Other helpful tips
Always stir the paint with a flat stick even though it has been shaken when mixed. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Create a check list of tools and materials you need before starting the job. This avoids frustration and loss of painting time - a "good thing".
2 - SELECTING YOUR COLOUR
Possibly the most important part of the process.
If you know what colour and the type of paint you require --- proceed straight to the shopping cart and complete the form to place your order.
If you are not sure you should collect some colour cards and view them in the room you are painting. Ensure to view them in various lighting conditions and surroundings colours, as a different setting can affect the colour.
Still unsure? You can purchase a sample pot from your nearest paint store and apply two coats on an area before you make your choice.
Once selected make sure you have the following:
- colour name
- brand name
- and colour number where possible
Proceed to the ePaint Sales shopping cart for purchase and delivery.
